The Empowered Woman: Kimberly King

Updated: Apr 11

Kimberly King, Executive Director of the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia (SACNWGA), embodies a steadfast commitment to supporting survivors and fostering change. Under her leadership, the Center offers vital services, including prevention education, advocacy, crisis intervention, and more. “We support survivors of all ages, for as long as support is needed, at no cost to our clients or their family,” Kimberly emphasizes. “We empower, and we always believe.”

Kimberly's journey with SACNWGA began in 2011 as a legal advocate. Over the years, she has taken on numerous roles, demonstrating unwavering dedication to prevention education, community outreach, and building impactful partnerships. In 2019, she stepped into the role of Executive Director—a position she never anticipated holding. Despite facing personal and professional challenges, Kimberly embraced the opportunity to lead, drawing on her ability to inspire others and manage effectively. Her perseverance, bolstered by validation from victim services professionals, solidified her confidence as a leader. “I refused to fail, and wasn’t going to give up. The stakes were too high to not succeed. I knew that we had to push through to provide the services needed for survivors in our community” she reflects.

Kimberly's passion for nonprofit work traces back to her college days. “Everyone can make an impact,” she says. Her career has spanned various non-profit organizations, always driven by a deep love for people. Her work with SACNWGA has reinforced this love, as she advocates for families and children navigating difficult circumstances and serves as their unwavering voice.

Under Kimberly's leadership, SACNWGA embodies the mission of empowerment—not just for survivors but for the community’s future. The Center collaborates with local school systems to deliver prevention education, addressing topics like the age of consent, healthy relationships, and available resources. Their goal is ambitious but vital: to create a cultural shift toward understanding and respect.

The reality that over half of sexual assaults go unreported highlights the importance of SACNWGA’s work and the resources it provides. For those affected by sexual assault or those seeking ways to help—whether through volunteering, donations, or advocacy—the SACNWGA offers a lifeline. Kimberly King’s story is one of resilience, dedication, and compassion. Through her leadership, the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia continues to empower, believe, and create meaningful change in the community.
