Devon Smyth, the Program Coordinator of Bloom Closet Rome, exudes an unwavering passion for her work. “I love connecting people’s passion to a mission,” she declared with enthusiasm. Since her college years, Devon’s life has been a beacon of service. Raised with a spirit of giving, she has always had a tender heart for those who have been “othered.”
As an ordained Episcopal clergy, Devon serves her parish every Sunday, ensuring the community never loses sight of the world beyond the church walls. Her gentle reminders urge the congregation to step out and serve, making her role a vital bridge between faith and action. Devon’s entire career has been a tapestry of community service, and we are incredibly fortunate to have people like her in our community.
Bloom Closet stands as a beacon of hope for any foster family, regardless of location. With two locations in Georgia and the mobile Bloom Express, the organization has served 136 out of 159 counties in the state. The ultimate dream? To reach every child in Georgia’s foster care system.
The need is immense. In Floyd County alone, there are currently 110 children in traditional foster care or group homes, with an additional 110 in kinship placement. Devon, as Program Coordinator since January 2024, has breathed new life into Bloom Rome. The boutique-like atmosphere offers a warm and welcoming experience for every visitor. “We know our shoppers’ stories, the children who come through their homes,” Devon says.
Every client at Bloom is paired with a personalized shopper, ensuring they leave with items that truly serve the children in their care. Beyond shopping, Bloom provides a sanctuary where caregivers can share their struggles and find solace. Since opening its doors on May 21, 2024, nearly 800 children have found joy and comfort through Bloom’s services.
Devon fondly recounts stories of young girls in foster care visiting Bloom. The joy on their faces upon discovering brand-name clothing, shoes, or purses is priceless. “You never know how much of an impact your donation can make,” she shares. Bloom receives an average of 250 bags of donations each month. They are always in need of specific items, including diapers (sizes 4, 5, & 6), wipes, feminine products, toiletries, and lightly used clothing. The organization also welcomes volunteers eager to make a difference.
The relationships Bloom has helped cultivate are what Devon treasures most. When children enter foster care with little more than the clothes on their backs, Bloom steps in to fill the gap, providing free clothing, books, toys, and school supplies. This support enables foster families to better care for the children in their charge.
Devon’s dedication and the impact of Bloom Closet serve as a powerful reminder of the difference one passionate individual can make. Help support their mission by giving to the Bloom Closet—because every child deserves a chance to thrive. To learn more, visit www.bloomfosters.org.
