Carrie Edge is an extraordinary mental health counselor who wears many hats: a devoted wife, mother of five, grandmother of four, and an empowered force of change. Her eclectic professional background has shaped the impactful career she enjoys today. With a remarkable résumé of leading and working with non-profit organizations, Carrie has long been driven by a passion for supporting those with mental health challenges.

At the age of 45, Carrie made a life changing decision to pursue her dream of becoming a licensed mental health counselor. Witnessing the scarcity of resources available for individuals grappling with mental illness, she stepped forward to make a difference. Fueled by personal experiences with family members facing mental health struggles, Carrie embraced her courage, overcame fear, and completed her counseling program in just over two years. For Carrie, mental health isn’t separate from physical health— it’s essential: “Mental health is health.”
When asked how to combat the stigma surrounding mental health, especially for women, Carrie highlights the power of advocacy: "It starts with advocacy. We are the experts within ourselves." She emphasizes the importance of self-advocacy, education, and speaking up to healthcare providers. Carrie sheds light on the deeply entrenched stigma women have faced: “Women have been stigmatized when it comes to mental health for generation after generation. Seen as the lesser of the two genders, and that is not the case. We are just different.” Accepting and valuing these differences is crucial to breaking the barriers of stigma.
Even today, in 2025, mental health stigma remains a pressing issue. “People are suffering in silence, and that’s why we’re seeing suicide rates at an all-time high.” The stigma often prevents individuals from seeking the help and therapy they need. Carrie believes change starts at home, through open conversations. Carrie's advice for fostering mental wellbeing includes:
Engage your mind: Try puzzles, reading, or learning something new.
Move your body: Exercise, practice yoga, or dance.
Build connections: Seek meaningful relationships.
End your day with gratitude: Reflect on the positives before resting.
Carrie beautifully captures the essence of her work: “There is nothing more beautiful than the trust that someone lends and allows you to sit within their story.” This profound truth reflects her dedication to creating a safe and compassionate space for her clients.
